An EDI 101 Overview

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is a business trade platform on which buyers and sellers exchange critical documents electronically, without paperwork.

EDI has been evolving for more than a quarter of a century, but up until recently was limited to larger enterprises, primarily due to the excessive startup and operational costs. Now, with the technologies allowed by the Internet, providers like eZCom have been able to offer more cost-effective EDI solutions, giving smaller suppliers the ability to participate.

Why Speak EDI?

Simple: because your trading partners - e.g., your customers - are requiring it. Since EDI is now affordable for small- and medium-size suppliers, more and more buyers are demanding their vendors become EDI Compliant.

As buyers will generally opt to obtain products from EDI capable suppliers, failure to comply can cost you sales as your buyer may choose to get a similar product from one of your competitors that have the ability to trade via EDI.
