Shipping Documents

Some of your customers may require you to route documents to them that itemize what’s been shipped versus what’s been ordered, state when products have been shipped and describe by what means products are being shipped. One of the more common of these documents used in e-commerce is the Advanced Shipment Notice (ASN), also known as an 856.

ASNs (along with most shipping cycle documents) are extremely time sensitive and must be generated and transmitted in real-time – in other words, right now. They’re also very detailed, often down to listing the exact items that are being shipped in specific cartons to specific locations. Failure to be precise with these documents can lead to charge back penalties from your customers. Fear of charge backs is why many vendors shy from doing business with customers who require e-commerce.
