Acknowledgement - A
special document transmitted by the receiver of an original
document, as an affirmative response to the sender.
ANSI - Organization devoted to development
of voluntary standards to enhance the productivity and international
competitiveness of American industrial enterprises.
ANSI standard - Document published by ANSI
that has been approved through the consensus process of public
announcement and review. Each of these standards must have been
developed by an ANSI committee and must be revisited by that
committee within 5 years for update.
Application Service Provider (ASP) - An Internet-based
provider of hosted applications and/or services, or an applications/services
outsourcer.
AS2 – A standard by which applications
transmit EDI, or other data over the Internet using HTTP (Hypertext
Transfer Protocol). AS2 provides security and encryption around
the data.
Advanced Shipment Notice (ASN) - A transaction
type that is sent to your Trading Partner advising them of
what merchandise has been shipped and is en route to their
facilities.
Asynchronous - Not synchronized - not at
the same time. It refers to a form of concurrent input and
output communication with no timing relationship between the
two signals; data is transferred one character at a time.
It means that processes operate independently of other processes;
i.e.: when data is transmitted from one computer to another
computer, the first computer does not have to wait for a response
from the second computer before transmitting more data.
Audit Phase - Some Trading Partners will
require an audit occur between the testing phase and the production
phase of an e-commerce implementation. In most cases, shipments
will be reviewed in detail to ensure that the merchandise
being shipped matches the associated transactions with 100%
accuracy.
