Bar code
- The encoding of alphanumeric characters by a series of varying
thickness bars to be read by a scanning device. Bar Codes are
most commonly used with UPC and Carton Serial identification.
B2B -Business-to-Business. Refers to commerce
between businesses. The term emerged to describe conducting
business between two or more companies over the Internet, but
in fact, refers to any automated, computer-enabled exchange
of business data between one or more companies.
Back-end Systems - Systems that handle companies'
internal processing and computing tasks, such as inventory,
receivables and order processing.
Batch Processing - The ability to perform functions
against multiple documents simultaneously, thus resulting in
a tremendous savings in time and effort when implemented correctly.
This function is not commonly found with most web-form applications.
Baud - The speed at which modems transfer data.
Bisynchronous - Character-oriented data communications
protocol developed by IBM.
Bill of Lading (BOL) - A document that establishes
the terms of a contract between a shipper and a transportation
company. It serves as a document of title, a contract of carriage
and a receipt for goods. This document states the terms on which
the carrier undertakes the transport. If issued in negotiable
form, it symbolizes title to the goods.
Browser - A software program used to look at
Internet pages.
Business Rules - The requirements set forth
by your Trading Partners that specify what information is expected.
These rules are specific by Trading Partner and by each transaction
or document type.
Buyer - Anyone who purchases goods or services;
customer.
