of Terms
Data Integration
- The synchronization of data between two different computers,
systems, or networks. With EDI, this commonly refers to passing
Purchase Orders and Invoices automatically between an EDI application
and a back office or accounting system, thus eliminating the
need for manually typing in the data.
Data Synchronization
The process by which two or more parties share information about items in a standardized format stored at one or more data repositories.
Destination - The place to which a shipment
is consigned. The place where carrier actually turns over cargo
to consignee or his agent.
Direct Connect - Establishing a communications
link between a company and a company's specific trading partner.
This is an alternative means of data transfer, instead of using
VANs or the Internet.
Document - As used in EDI, one complete piece
of data. For example, one Purchase Order, or one Invoice.
Document Type - Specific reference to the transactions
being exchanged between you and your Trading Partners. Examples
of Document Types are: Purchase Order, ASN and Invoice.
Download - Copy a file from a host system to
your computer. Also refers to the process of transmitting a
program from a host or main computer to another computer at
a remote site.
